Simple ways to improve your finances this winter

Contrary to popular belief, winter is not the ideal time to start anew but the time to rest, prepare and learn. This is a new perspective I've acquired and, since doing so, I have felt more aligned and in sync with my natural rhythms. Now, during the colder, darker months, I am slowing down, doing a little planning, making lists, and getting a few smaller tasks done. For example,

  1. Scheduling some No Spend days and weekends.

  2. Looking at various credit cards to compare the benefits I'm receiving (i.g., points, cash back, foreign exchange fees, etc.)?

  3. Comparing natural gas rates to be sure I have the best rate, if not, putting it on my to-do list to switch in the spring or summer because the rates are usually lower "off-season"?

  4. Scheduling home repair and maintenance tasks that may cost more in the spring and summer such as electrical jobs and air conditioner maintenance.

  5. Making soups, broths, and chili to save on food costs.

  6. Slowly gathering household items to sell during the Spring when people are moving and doing home renovations

There are a number of things winter teaches us, such as, to be warm, to be resilient, to rest, to be prepared, to trust the process, and to be still and listen. Here are tools and offerings to help you get the most out of your winter season.
